
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born July 9, 1956 is an American actor. He is renowned for his comedic and dramatic parts and is considered to be to be an American iconic cultural figure. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California, to Janet Marylyn a hospital worker, and Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook. His mother's family, originally called "Fraga" was largely Portuguese, while his father was of predominantly English heritage. Tom was born into a family he calls "fractured". He had no experience in acting at the college level and credits the failure to be cast in a college production as the reason he did not begin his professional career.
